Auditory Notes
Deeply comfortable yet distinctly structured, Anderssen & Voll’s design process for Hi Lo revolved around the concept of ease. Described as “a sofa that explains itself to your body”, its form provided an experiential entry to this year’s 3daysofdesign concept: The Living Archive. While other designs may have carved out a more direct path to the title, Hi Lo’s was nuanced, playful, and characteristically Anderssen & Voll.
Reflecting a duality between high comfort and low form, the Hi Lo Lounge carried connotations of HiFi culture and was orientated to replicate the immersive feeling of listening to the right soundtrack in the right space.
Lining the perimeter of the room, the Hi Lo Lounge’s sofa configuration was conversation pit inspired, creating an invitation to settle into a soft, immersive landscape. As avid music listeners, Anderssen & Voll extended this sense of immersion through a playlist – a sonic archive by the designers and red thread to our theme – that underscored the scenes unfolding in the room over the course of the day. As visitors to the exhibition resigned to the enveloping embrace of Hi Lo, they gained a uniquely personal insight into its designers’ auditory worlds.
